Safeguarding Creative Childhoods

Welcome to KidsPace

A national commitment to safe, supportive Dance and Performing Arts education for children.

From costuming, choreography, and music selection to responsible social media, advertising, and child-safe standards: the KidsPace Performing Arts Code of Practice - developed in consultation with experts across arts, education, law, and child safety - is a declaration of commitment by businesses and individuals to foster healthy, age-appropriate environments where children can thrive; in the studio, on stage, and online.

The Code provides a practical blueprint to protect children and young people from sexualisation and to uphold their mental health, wellbeing, body confidence and creative development. By becoming a signatory, you affirm that holistic teaching standards and the development of young artists go hand in hand. Together, we can ensure a safeguarded, empowering creative childhood for all.

There are close to one-million Aussie kids engaged in Dance and the Performing Arts

Dance, Drama, Musical Theatre and more - the Performing Arts is inspiring this generation of children to unleash their gifts and physical capabilities whilst developing discipline, resilience, empathy, confidence, creativity, leadership and teamwork skills across thousands of businesses every day. As one of Australia’s most influential cultural activities, we must ensure our creative spaces are safe, age-appropriate, and preserving our childrens’ right to childhood.

Childhood is intended to be a period of curiosity, play, and paced growth - but this season is narrowing.

Decline in Aussie kids’ mental health has reached unprecedented levels:

For children aged 8-13 years: one in three experience a general mental health problem, one in six have an anxiety diagnosis, one in four have depression

Eating disorders cost Australia $67 billion (annually) in wellbeing and economic losses, with rates doubling of sufferers aged 10-19 years

One in five teenagers are experiencing high levels of psychological stress; one in 13 consider suicide, and one in 40 will attempt it.

Parents are verifying what the research shows: children are losing years of childhood, facing adult pressures and an overtly sexualised culture, constant digital exposure, and rising mental health challenges.
